Matthew Young

What led you to teaching?
I grew up enjoying being able to help my younger cousins with their homework and teach them how to swim on family holidays, but it wasn’t until after completing college that I considered becoming a teacher. I returned to the Primary School I attended as a child and immediately loved working in education. I loved the enthusiasm and energy children bring and felt privileged to be able to make a positive difference in their lives.

What inspires you and what you do?
I love to encourage curiosity and enable children to become independent learners. I enjoy seeing a child persevere through problems to come to a strong understanding. I strive to give every child the best opportunities to succeed and become life-long learners.

What do you love most about Skippers?
Though I have only just begun my journey at Skippers, I have loved the welcoming environment and attitude of staff and children alike. It is such a nurturing place set up to empower children and staff to achieve their full potential.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
During the holidays, I love to travel and explore other countries and cultures. I recently arrived back from a once in a lifetime trip to South-East Asia, Australia and America! In my day to day life, I enjoy taking part in competitive sports such as football and tennis, as well as playing multiple instruments including guitar and the drums.
