Year 3 take a look at different kinds of rocks

Posted: 21st January 2015 | Category: Year 3

The children in Year 3 have really impressed me with their desire to carry out further work on the topics we have been studying without being asked.

Last term, in Science, we looked at ‘forces’. During this topic many children made information booklets and posters which were fantastic and I was able to display them on the board. Madison and Martha L brought in their magnetic sets to share with the class and we were able to create different structures using magnets.

Over the Christmas holidays, not only did the children write a poem with the title ‘family’ but they also carried out some practical Maths work – weighing and measuring.

With the new term come new topics, and already the Year 3 children are raring to go. Our Science topic is ‘rocks’ and we have had all different kinds of rocks, crystals and fossils brought in and shared with the class. Martha Hall has been making up her own experiments at home and looking at different objects which float and sink and then sharing her findings with the class. Alfie Ball has been researching inventors and their inventions and wrote a very interesting article about Archimedes. And I continue to find bits of paper on my desk in the mornings with times tables written out on them!

What will the children have done for tomorrow………?!

Keep up the hard work, Year 3!
