We certainly had better weather than in Five Ashes and the pupils certainly made the most of everything that the beautiful Dorset coastline has to offer.
Day one included a fun time in a sloppy assault course style mud run followed by an afternoon on an inflatable water course where the excitement and pent up energy certainly came in handy. A leisurely game of crazy golf on Swanage seafront was light relief from the physicality of earlier in the day but the US Masters Green Jacket was never in any danger!
Day two started with the children in good spirits after a good sleep ready for a morning of kayaking on an idyllic lake. An afternoon of history followed at the magnificent tank museum, which certainly made for an interesting and eye opening experience. An added treat was the moving of a famous tank that was the focus of the film ‘Fury’ and they timed the parade just for Skippers, it was great.
Another day was spent exploring at the beautiful Corfe Castle and then a trip on a vintage steam train. It really solidifies how much variety is on offer around the Swanage area, Studland Bay was stunning, the dunes and sandy beaches left us wanting more….but just with warmer waters and a little more sunshine!
I must congratulate the year 6 pupils who were magnificent. They were always helpful to one another, working as a real team throughout the week as a group who totally embraced the opportunities and experience of being away from home on a residential in Dorset.
After the year we have all had, spending time with their pals was just the tonic they all needed.
Dorset gave us the opportunity to have the capacity to all be part of really valuable experiences, drawing out the best in year 6, bringing together different friendship groups, rising up to take on and conquer new challenges – the most difficult of which was defintitely recovering from the smell of the mud run!
Well done year 6!
