Effective Learners

In cherishing the individuality of each child, Skippers aims to ensure that all children have the opportunity to be successful as they move into their future education and onward into the wider world. With this in mind, we have considered different ways in which our pupils can become Effective Learners. We want our pupils to flourish in all aspects of the curriculum and be confident to apply knowledge to new situations and challenges.

In order to develop into an Effective Learner, both staff and pupils at Skippers have put together what we call an Effective Learner Profile. The Effective Learner profile is a central part of all learning which takes place at Skippers to prepare all children in our community for the 21st century. Click below to discover more.

As well as our Effective Learner Profile, we have also developed the Challenge Award. This aims to engage pupils in Years 6, 7 and 8 in a variety of tasks and projects to aid their personal development - learning new skills, carrying out personal projects, volunteering in the local community and taking part in expeditions. "I’m a Year 6 pupil and my friends and I are working towards the Bronze Award. Our first task was to learn and take up a new skill. Loads of medals are going to be won as there is some great effort here from all taking part. My personal favourite is Baylee, who put time, money and effort into creating a cook book to present to the class."
