Meet Dominic Jones Our Graduate Sports Coach

Posted: 17th October 2021

Dominic has now been with us since the start of the school year. He has thrown himself into everything, the staff and children all love him and it seems like he’s always been here. We asked him a few questions about himself.

What attracted you to the role at Skippers?

I was firstly attracted to the role at Skippers as I felt it was a great opportunity for me to develop and progress to becoming a teacher and doing my PGCE. Once I visited the school I got a great vibe from the members of staff and pupils I met. To me it felt like an encouraging and supportive place to work. I believe the size of the school would allow me to make a greater impact on pupils learning and well-being

What skills and experience do you bring that will help you with your role?

Previously I have worked in a Primary School as a SEN teaching assistant and sports teacher. I have most recently been working as a sports graduate at another prep school. Within these jobs I have provided additional academic support as well as teach a range of different sports to year groups ranging from yr 1 to yr 8. I am also a level 2 badminton coach and would love to offer my expertise here too.

What excites you about qualifying as a teacher?

Being able to help and guide pupils to become more competent to perform basic skills. I strongly believe that if all children are taught the most basic skills they are more likely to continue to participate in sports and stay physically active.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I am a very keen sportsman, currently playing badminton and cricket. I enjoy all sports and take up any opportunities to try new ones. If I am not playing sport or out trying to stay active, I will try to relax by watching it.
