Sport

Sport forms a major part of life here at Skippers, with a wide range of sports available for pupils of all abilities to partake in. Over the years a significant number of our pupils have been awarded specialist scholarships in Sport.

The school’s enthusiasm for Sport is well accommodated with its extensive playing fields, gymnasium, swiming pool and tennis courts.  We have a full fixture list with all of the preparatory schools in our area, and take pride in performing strongly in in a range of sports including Football, Netball, Hockey, Rugby, Cross Country, Athletics, Cricket and Rounders.

Timing and communication are vital skills to acquire in Netball, particularly as you only have three seconds in which to execute the perfect pass! In the drill shown in the video below, known as ‘The Box’, the U11 team at Skippers are learning to time their moves to coincide with the ball carrier being in a well balanced position ready to release the ball.  This then translates directly into a game situation. The girls are learning to both rely on and support each other which is the beauty of team sport and a great life skill too!
