We have a thriving Drama Department. Pupils from Year 3 -8 all study Drama as part of the curriculum. All pupils from Kindergarten to Year 8 take part in an annual production - see our Photo Gallery for some of the most recent performances. They also have the opportunity to perform at school in a variety of concerts. Additional drama workshops run by visiting groups are arranged during the year.

We have strong links with Heathfield Drama Club, which is run by our Drama teacher and many of our pupils are active members.

There are visits to productions organised throughout the year. This year, for example, the younger pupils went to see a local pantomime, in which many of our older pupils were performing and our older pupils went to see Goodnight Mr. Tom at the Phoenix Theatre in London.

A large proportion of our pupils opt for additional Speech and Drama/Spoken English lessons and can take the LAMDA exams in Verse and Prose and Spoken English. In addition, those who want to can take Acting Exams with UWL board in preparation for scholarships. Our recent results were exceptional, with 50% of students achieving Distinction in either Verse and Prose or Spoken English, up to and including Grade 6 ( the equivalent standard to GCSE) and 49% obtaining Merits.

There have been many successes at the Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead festivals in the disciplines of Verse, Prose Reading, Acting, Shakespeare and Mime.

We are very proud of the success of so many pupils in this area and also those who have gained Drama Scholarships to their Senior schools.
