Year 8 stay committed and focused preparing for Common Entrance

Posted: 1st March 2018 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

Enough has been said already this week about ‘the beast from the East’ and so I feel that a reprieve from snow and ice is in order!

The Spring Term is a crucial time for our Year 8 pupils as they find themselves approaching the back end of their Common Entrance programme. They are sitting their second set of mock examinations as I write and are proving very committed and focused, which is a great example for our younger pupils. Each pupil is being very well supported and coached in his or her academic subjects; the senior school staff are also running a series of short workshops to help develop study skills and how to handle pressure and the inevitable stresses of exams. All of this will stand each and every one of them in very good stead and I am sure that they will do everyone proud when the time comes.

I am delighted that a number of our pupils entered and won scholarships and exhibitions to senior schools this year. As a non-selective school, our children perform consistently well in this area, testament to the recognition of the individual and the breadth of opportunity available at Skippers. All of the Year 8 pupils deserve credit for their application and endeavour, but I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the particular success of our scholars:

If only they offered a sledging award!

Best wishes,

Mark Hammond.
