Year 3 Enjoy a Special Roald Dahl Day
Posted: 2nd October 2014 | Category: Year 3
In English, our class reader is Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. We have been finding out more about this famous author and last Wednesday we had a special Roald Dahl day.
We replaced our normal timetable with instead all our lessons were based around Roald Dahl and the different books he wrote.
We came to school dressed as characters from our favourite Roald Dahl book and after having our photo taken outside it was down to business.
First we moved all the tables to the side of our classroom and we sat on the carpet in the shape of a rowing boat. We listened to a chapter from Charlie and the Chocolate factory called the ‘Chocolate River’. After that we imagined we were rowing down our own chocolate river. We thought about what we could see, hear, taste, smell and feel. Then we wrote our ideas down on a boat using descriptive words.
After break, we had Science. In Science at the moment we are learning about healthy eating. The farmers in Fantastic Mr Fox do not have a very healthy diet so we made healthy meals for them. We started off with a paper plate and after that we had to choose a farmer from Fantastic Mr Fox. Then we had to write onto the top of our plate. We had to draw lines with a ruler and write the food groups. Here comes the fun part, we wrote the menu for the farmer with extra description.
Then it was time for our lunch. The lovely cooks (or Oompa Loompas!), as always, made us a delicious lunch with a twist!
After lunch, we had some chocolate fun as well as Maths. We weighed out many ingredients to make our very own Wonka chocolate bar. We weighed out the 60 grams of chocolate and melted it in the microwave. Then we put rice-crispies or cornflakes in the melted chocolate and put into cupcake cases. We then decorated each one with sweets and chocolate. After we had finished we let them go hard by putting them in the fridge. We covered them in brown paper and put our stickers on. We had lots of fun and made lots of mess!
At 2.30pm the BFG visited our classroom. We all knew it was Miss Alexander. She read a chapter about Sophie and her dream catchers. She opened her brown suitcase and pulled out a dream. We loved seeing Miss Alexander. Then she walked out the classroom. After that we thought about and wrote down our own dreams.
We had a lovely day. We finished the day with Music and Mrs Hollyman taught us a song from the musical, Matilda.
