Well Done Year Eight

Posted: 12th June 2020 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

As I sit here today my thoughts turn in one direction: the fantastic achievements of each of our Year Eight leavers this term. It has been an exceptional time for them and the children have had to overcome a fair few changes and challenges throughout the course of the year.

I am sure they will readily admit that they have had to dig deep, work hard and show great resilience. As a result they are approaching the end of the year in good spirits despite the circumstances, learning some invaluable lessons along the way which will stand them in very good stead for their future studies. I am delighted to be posting their Common Entrance results out to them today and they can expect something to land through the postbox in the next few days - a touch of something traditional in a changed world and something that all parents will recall from their own examination experiences! Thank you to the senior staff team led by Mr Minister, who have had to create new and innovative ways to enable the exams to take place this year, alongside rapidly turning around marking and report writing.

We will of course find ways to celebrate the Year Eights, and the achievements of the wider pupil body, in the absence of our formal prize giving ceremony this year. I am grateful to all of you for your patience and understanding at this time: I am currently working hard on finalising the school’s response to the latest government announcements regarding primary schools and look forward to writing to you next week with the actions that we will be taking at Skippers in the coming weeks to do the very best for our pupils.

Best wishes,

Mark Hammond
