Next story: Reception go on Autumnal Adventures
We will remember them
Posted: 9th November 2016 | Category: Year 2
Year 2 have been learning about Remembrance Day and its significant place in our history. We have listened to poetry inspired by the First World War. We have learned that the reason we wear poppies to remember the soldiers who have died to keep us safe is that a poem called 'In Flanders Fields' was inspired by the poppies that grew on the battlefields after the fighting had ended. We learned that animals can also be soldiers and that many horses died in World War 1. We have discovered that the war was fought from trenches, which were muddy and smelt horrible! Inspired by our new knowledge and understanding, we have written our own acrostic poems, have made poppy wreaths and have created silhouette art inspired by the themes of past wars and Remembrance Day, all displayed in our classroom.
