Upper KG learn about 2D shapes
Posted: 27th June 2017 | Category: Kindergarten
Amongst our many other learning activities this term Upper Kindergarten children have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties. We have been looking at circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, semi-circles and octagons and discovering their similarities and differences.
The children have been differentiating between shapes with straight sides and curved sides, shapes with 4 corners, shapes with 4 sides, shapes with all sides the same and shapes with 2 opposite sides the same. Last week, equipped with their new found knowledge and a clipboard and pencil, they went on a shape hunt in our outside environment.
They raced around squealing with joy and delight when they discovered so many shapes - which they then had to note down on their tally charts. Such a competitive spirit to see who had the most tally marks!
Well done, Kindies!
