Sports Masterclass at Bedes

Posted: 11th February 2015 | Category: Year 5, Year 6, Year 7

On a chilly Saturday morning in January, some of the top sportsmen and women from Years 5, 6 and 7 made their way to Bede's Multi Purpose Sports Hall where they had been invited to take part in a Master Class given by professional coaches based at the school. The children were allowed to choose two sports they wished to develop from, cricket, football and hockey. They then spent an hour training alongside other sportsmen and women from other schools. Needless to say all of our students loved both sports sessions and seemed utterly enthralled by the fantastic facilities and sports coaches based at Bede's. Here is what some of our students thought of their day:

Tom 'I thought it was a really good masterclass in cricket, football and hockey. I really loved all the great facilities and all the coaches were amazing. Also we were one of the first on their brand new water pitch, which is one of the best in the country. I learnt a lot of new skills and important ones too. Their indoor cricket nets were awesome and I got a good experience of the school.'

Ollie ‘I went to Bedes and played cricket and football with people from other schools but I preferred the cricket because the coach was great fun.’

Lucie ‘We went  to Bedes for a sports master class which was fun and they said I was good at batting in cricket.’

Jiya ‘I loved the sports hall and all the facilities and the astro was fun  as the coaches were interesting and unique.’

Freddie ‘I enjoyed playing football on the astro (especially as I scored from the halfway line). The hockey was more  difficult because the astro-turf was very smooth so it was fast. I enjoyed learning new skills in hockey which will hopefully improve my game.’

Toby ‘I really enjoyed the cricket because he really helped me learn new techniques and then I was able to  practice them in batting and bowling.’

Eve ‘The cricket coach said I was great at bowling and thinks I should join a  team!’

Diya ‘I enjoyed it all but I liked the hockey best  as I learnt a new way of hitting the hockey ball, the reverse slap shot.’

Alfie ‘It was a great morning at Bedes because of the new astro which was  good to play on because it was smooth. They had  lots of equipment.’

I would like to personally thank the team over at Bede's for a brilliant day out that was educational, productive, competitive and well organised, and we at Skippers Hill look forward to returning next year.
