November is always an eventful month

Posted: 26th November 2014 | Category: Year 2

November is always an eventful month with Guy Fawkes, Remembrance Day, Diwali and rehearsals for the Christmas Production.
Our topic this term is all about light which tied in very well with fireworks and Diwali.
In Design and Technology Year 1 made clay Diwali lamp holders and Year 2 are in the process of making coiled candle holders.
In Art Year 2 painted their own interpretation of the poppy display at the Tower of London and have created a wonderful display outside their classroom.
In Year 2 ICT the children wrote facts about the Gunpowder Plot using Purple Mash.
For science the Juniors had a grandparent come to the classroom to talk about volcanoes.  We followed this up by making our own volcanic eruption using vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid and food colouring. The sense of awe at the result was a wonder to behold and led to lively, inquisitive discussion.
The children have  been enjoying  stories from  The Lighthouse Keeper series ,  Laura’s Star and The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark.We look forward to seeing lots of parents at our Christmas Production of Ralph the Reindeer on Tuesday the 8th of December.
