Mrs Holleyman’s Harp Challenge

Posted: 2nd March 2016

It is the 60th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme this year.  As I have been leading the scheme as a Civilian Instructor  through the Air Cadets for the past 3 years, I have signed up to take part in the Diamond Challenge.
Last year, I was given a Celtic harp, an instrument I have always wanted to play.  What better opportunity?  I can learn while raising money for the DofE scheme.  I have to admit that it’s more difficult than it looks.  Although my harp does not have 47 strings, nor does it have pedals, it sits on the wrong side!  I am used to playing the viola and piano so this has been a real challenge.
I started my Challenge in January and it lasts for 6 months.  I have to raise at least £60 and, if I succeed, I shall be awarded a Diamond pin.  After a frustrating start, I have just bought a book of music that works from Initial stage to Grade 2.  So, some progress then, although I do not see myself being signed up by an Agent anytime soon.
If you would like to sponsor my attempt, I should be really grateful.  This is the website for JustGiving or you might prefer to sign the sponsor form that I have left in the school office.

Thank you!
