Mrs Alsop (Deputy Head): Supporting parents with future school options

Posted: 17th October 2014 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

One of the most important decisions to be made at Skippers is which senior school to move to next.

Very often parents want to start considering this years in advance, especially if schools are popular, even over - subscribed. We are keen that parents are armed with as much information as possible regarding potential Senior Schools in order to help make the right decision for their children, as there are so many factors to take into consideration.

As one of our ways of communicating information to parents, on Tuesday 7th October we held our first Future Schools Exhibition.  A number of Senior Schools were invited and the following were represented by Heads, Deputies, Senior Teachers and Registrars: Battle Abbey, St. Leonard’s Mayfield, Bedes, Hurstpierpoint, Moira House, Claremont, Tonbridge, Eastbourne College, Kent College and Brighton College. Our older students visited the exhibition during the course of the afternoon and were able to talk to representatives from schools they thought might be possibilities for them in future years (and pick up the “freebies” that were on offer!).

Parents were invited between 3.30 and 6.00 and, again, had an opportunity to talk to representatives directly, ask any questions and pick up prospectuses and other pieces of useful information. It was certainly a very successful event and useful to bring so many schools together under the same roof.
