Juniors enjoy Cocoa Evening

Posted: 10th March 2015 | Category: Year 2

The Juniors have been enjoying their new topic on Fairy Tales. They have enjoyed listening to many different Fairy Tale stories and Year 2 children have particularly enjoyed listening to  a variety of Fairy Tales with a twist!

Book week was a great week for linking work to Fairy Tales.

The Juniors astounded us with super results in their Spelling Challenge during Book Week. The Spelling Challenge was set up to assist them in writing their own Fairy Tale stories which they are currently in the early stages of planning.

We also celebrated  Book Week with ‘Cocoa Evening’. The children enjoyed coming back to school in their pyjamas to listen to stories read by parents. After listening to some wonderfully read stories and having a cup of hot chocolate with a biscuit, they entertained parents by singing a variety of Fairy Tale songs.

The Bookworm Challenge during Book week certainly proved that we have some real 'bookworms' amongst the Junior children!

In addition to our work on Fairy Tales, the children have also enjoyed an outdoor literacy workshop on the Gruffalo story at Plumpton College. They had great fun going into the muddy woods to look for clues. Much to their delight they even found the Gruffalo!

During Book Week they also got to go on a real Bear Hunt in the grounds of Skippers Hill. This really brought the story by Michael Rosen alive.

We hope you enjoy looking at all our photos to show you the fun we had at all these events!

A huge thank you to all the parents who volunteered reading during Book Week or who assisted our School trip.
