Jersey 2015

Posted: 31st March 2015 | Category: Year 7, Year 8

Thirteen years have passed since my disastrous first attempt to get to Jersey for a good friend's wedding. Queueing for the hovercraft booked weeks in advance, I was told I was too pregnant for a safe journey and so it was not to be that I visited the beautiful church overlooking the expanse of white sand at St Brelades Bay. How strange that I did get to see this spectacular wedding venue and have a peep inside that very church with my 'U13 Netball Team' during the Jersey Sports Tour of 2015!

I had a few pre-conceived ideas about the Jersey Tour, not least because my own daughter had made the trip twice returning with many tales of adventure.  I knew it was going to be fun and that lots of sport was involved but I was totally and pleasantly surprised by many aspects of the five fun packed days.

The children were of course bound by the rules of respect for one another's time and space, for the hotel that accommodated them, for personal time-keeping, manners and behaviour but the overall feel was of a big family holiday which happened to be thoroughly educational in all senses. The behaviour of the Skippers Hill children was exemplary!

The sporting venues were fabulous. I felt privileged and thrilled to be on such wonderful indoor Netball courts for the 'Les Ormes Tournament'; the beaches were  stunning with rock pooling and rock climbing to die for; the towns and forts with the history of island occupation were fascinating; the hotel and all the lunch venues around the island provided us with excellent food and beautiful locations and I discovered I was not too good at bowling, Mr Gurran had as much fun as the children down the water flumes and the list really does go on....  Oh and I forgot the private coaches with their friendly drivers who chauffeured us all day long between the many events and the disco and the hotel pool and the zoo and the hilarity of the turban of shame....well I hope you all now see!

Was I tired on my return? YES, and all the following week to be honest, but I can assure all of you children and parents that is was well worth it!!
