Firm Foundations

Posted: 4th April 2019 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

As the top block building project has progressed over the past few weeks I have been reflecting upon the fantastic foundation that an education at Skippers provides our pupils.

This week I have had the genuine pleasure of welcoming back a number of former Skippers' pupils and I have been delighted to see the young adults they have become: the legacy of a Skippers' education clear to see in their positivity, engagement and community spirit.

As we approach the time of year when I firm up staffing for September, two former pupils have been in to talk about working here next year as sports assistants when they complete their A-level studies in June. Extremely talented, mature and well-rounded they are, and it is a credit to Skippers that they are considering returning to their prep school to work next year. The children love working with our gap assistants and it is particularly meaningful when alumni come back.

Last year’s leavers have also been in touch and several former pupils have been unable to resist a return to their old stomping ground. They will enjoy celebrity status as they help with the programme of activities throughout the day and I very much look forward to hearing how they have been getting on at senior school since moving on last summer.

Wishing you all a very happy Easter holiday. When you return, I am sure that both the physical and metaphorical foundations at the school will have grown that little bit stronger.

Mark Hammond.
