Preparing for Life at Senior School

Posted: 6th June 2019 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

What a busy week it has been for our senior pupils! For Year 8, Common Entrance is over - many congratulations! The culmination of two years’ hard graft and the pinnacle of their studies, this experience will stand them in great stead for senior school life.

Over the course of the past two years, the pupils have benefited from the specialist teaching at the school and refined their study skills, developed strategies to cope with the pressure of exams and worked through a genuine exam process, all the time in a challenging but nurturing environment. From speaking to pupils this week, I know that they spent many hours revising during the break, and this was evident as they approached their papers calmly and confidently.

The Year 7s had their first taste of formal exams as well this week and they have coped very well indeed. Identifying areas for development and focus for Year 8 will enable the teachers and pupils to focus study on the correct areas next year.

Well done to all the pupils for their efforts, and thanks to all the teachers for the support and guidance they have provided. I am sure that there will be some excellent results in due course but for the time being, the seniors can head off on their residential next week feeling proud of their achievements this year.

Best wishes,

Mark Hammond.
