Challenge Seekers

Posted: 18th September 2020 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

It has been a whirlwind of a start to life at Skippers but we are loving every second of it!

This last week has been whoopsy whiffling at Skippers as we celebrated Roald Dahl. The children have thoroughly enjoyed it and our Reception class have such wonderful knowledge of his books. They even managed to build a Chocolate Factory in a day! One of the most enthusiastic children played a fantastic trick on me today with a ‘chocolate bar’ present that ended up being cardboard!

Our theme this term is Challenge Seekers. With the children, we have defined this as ‘to be the best I can be, I will seek challenges to positively enhance my life and others around me’. The staff and I have also adopted this attitude and we are positive that Skippers has returned better than ever.

We were determined that even with the restrictions, we were going to offer new and dynamic opportunities that challenged ourselves to provide an education that is better than before. I believe we have achieved this. This has been possible because of our dedicated staff and the way the children and parents have engaged with everything we are trying to achieve here.

We have designed the school day to be as close to normality as possible with the children’s welfare being our top priority. We discovered in the first few days that they were so happy to be back, with one delightful boy in Reception class shouting as he skipped in on his first day, “Today is going to be the best day ever!”. And he had a fabulous time turning his classroom into a Chocolate Factory during our celebrations of Roald Dahl, ably assisted by his teachers! Can you guess his name? In the Early Years we capture the interest of our children as they have a natural desire to learn, explore and question. We are taking full advantage of our beautiful grounds, in which our Mud Kitchen, tree climbing area, secret dens and storytelling circle play a pivotal role.

Our timetable looks more dynamic and diverse this year. This has included:

As we continue with our Challenge Seekers theme I am excited to see how we are all going to grow and develop, it is such a wonderful time to be part of Skippers!
