Years 6&7pupils enjoy ‘Sing’ at Eastbourne College

The eagerly anticipated trip for Years 6 and 7 pupils to Eastbourne College arrived with the promise of the Sunshine Coast living up to its reputation. Such is the popularity of the annual ‘Sing’ event that I had to check if Alice and Libby had carried out their threat to stowaway in the back of the mini bus!
With twelve students safely on board, all in fine voice, we set off promptly at 9:00. It was good to see so many other students from other local Prep schools also looking forward to the day. With such an extensive repertoire to choose from, their Head of Music selected a varied programme of songs that most of the students did not know. With music so readily available to young people, this was no mean feat.
The programme was ambitious with some of the songs dividing into three parts but this did not appear to faze any of the young people. From ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ from David Fanshawe’s African Sanctus to Somewhere Only We Know, the children worked hard and learned how to follow a conductor’s beat and respond to his interpretation of the score.
Fortified with the copious snacks and a substantial lunch , the students worked hard at their singing. After lunch, they had the opportunity to take a break when they were invited to try an activity. With choices ranging from Zumba to Music Tech, Drama to D.T, our pupils enjoyed these new experiences.
It was lovely to see a number of parents in the audience and I think they will agree that it was another successful and enjoyable trip.
