Year 8 Help Reception Keep an Eye Out for the Book Fairies
Posted: 10th March 2020 | Category: Reception, Year 8

There was great excitement in Reception and Kindergarten at the start of Book Week when they discovered the Book Fairies had visited!
Year 8 students wrote magical notes to pop inside books and wrapped them up carefully in ribbons to hide in the woodland.
They then helped the younger children to hunt for the books and keep an eye out for the fairies! When the students got back to their classes they read together and encouraged the children to take the books home and then re-hide them for somebody new to find.
The theme of World Book Day 2020 is to “Share a Million Stories”. Anybody can be a book fairy.
The idea is that finding hidden treasures will encourage more people to read. Reading for pleasure is so important: it encourages imagination, empathy and mindfulness of others as well as being linked to increased attainment in literacy and numeracy at school. Year 8 acted as passionate reading role models and it was wonderful to hear them share their stories with the very youngest children at Skippers.
