Year 8 go skiing after Common Entrance

In June, after all the Years 8’s hard work towards Common Entrance, we travelled to SnowWorld in the Netherlands for a well earned break!

The hotel was a pleasure to stay in. When we arrived we were immediately ushered into a ready-and-waiting dining room for a delicious buffet meal that was very welcoming after the long journey. After that, it didn’t take long for us to all unpack and even less time for the entire hotel to fall asleep..or not!

During our stay, the Year 8’s were split into two ability groups, beginner and intermediate/advanced and were led by fantastic instructors from the Ski School. Each group had 8 hours of lessons over the weekend and a final 2 hour lesson before we left on Monday. In addition, they were fortunate to have a huge ski area in which to free ski in the afternoon and evenings.

We witnessed some high-speed donutting down the slopes too! The improvement in skiing ability of all three groups was very impressive, with the beginners tackling bigger runs by the end of the weekend and the advanced group coming down part of the Olympic run. We were even lucky enough to meet some England Paralympic skiers!

All the ski staff commented on the maturity, independence and engagement of our pupils.

We spent two enjoyable afternoons exploring the town of Ghent. After a morning on the slopes, pupils had the freedom to explore the town, see the sights and many became regular customers at the local crêperie!

It was a long journey back to school, but time passed quickly with word games and good spirits!

Thank you to all the pupils who were excellently behaved and good company. It was another amazing trip and the pupils were a credit to the school.
