Year 7 Scientists meet Gertrude!

Year 7 Scientists meet Gertrude!

Having met MRS GREN in their science lessons a few weeks ago, I felt it was time for Year 7 to meet Gertrude – our (almost) life sized torso!  This fantastic new resource is as close to an actual body as we can get and is designed to support the learning of several sections of the biology CE syllabus.   

Gertrude brought the Cells and Organisation Topic to life in providing the pupils with the opportunity to view realistically coloured and detailed organs in the correct location and proportion.  Whilst Year 7 engaged fully with this, I think the highlight for them was probably the “dissection” of Gertrude! The children enjoyed seeing the removal of a number of her organs to further their understanding of the physical relationship between them.  Fortunately Gertrude didn’t seem to mind being separated from her lungs, liver, pancreas and intestines!
