Year 7 & 8 Challenge Themselves Camping

A new school year and another opportunity for our seniors to experience some bonding time, personal and team challenges and a whole heap of fun.

All 47 pupils arrived on Friday morning with precision-packed kit to enable any young person to enjoy an overnight stop in one of the best surroundings we could ask for.

It was amazing to see so many excited but different approaches to the camp.  Those Year 8 pupils who took part last year were certainly able to reflect on their previous experience and shared happy and positive memories as well as, I am sure, some useful ‘tips’ to make a successful night.

The Year 7 pupils presented with great excitement perhaps coupled with a small amount of curiosity.  Some called upon their challenge-seeking abilities to spend a night away from home and under canvas.

We were so impressed to see how both year groups were able to bond with each other and support and encourage those who were a little nervous.

Following some time to chill, excellent sports activities and wide games, the pupils were treated to a delicious BBQ feast followed by a traditional campfire with the usual and not so usual songs.  Of course you can’t have a campfire without smores!! 2 choccie biscuits with a cooked marshmallow in the middle – Yum!! Mr Gurran, Mr Barden and Mr Marten then lead a game of lighthouse before a drink of hot chocolate and bed (eventually!!).

Thanks to the amazing weather and a wonderful staff team, the pupils all seemed to enjoy the experience.  Thanks to Mr and Mrs. Hammond, Mr. Gurran, Mr. Barden, Mr. Marten, Mr. Tier, Mrs O’Neil and Jackie who were brave enough to take on the night shift as well as help earlier in the evening from many of the other members of staff.
