Year 4 & 5 trip to The National Portrait Gallery
Posted: 26th November 2011
On Tuesday 18th October, Year 4 and 5 headed to London for a trip to the National Portrait Gallery.
The children spent the morning in small groups looking around the gallery at a selection of art work, ranging from Tudor to contemporary portraits. They particularly enjoyed seeing some of the portraits they had looked at in class: The Bronte sisters, Landseer and the lions, as well as ones they have only seen in postcard size.
Under beautiful autumn sunshine pupils enjoyed a picnic lunch in Trafalgar Square where Landseer’s lions were spotted again!
In the afternoon pupils enjoyed an art activity looking at stories behind some of the 18th Century portraits. Things got quite messy as the pastels came out and the children were given the chance to copy a favourite painting with some fabulous results.
After the obligatory trip to the shop, everyone piled back onto the train at Charing Cross to head back to Wadhurst.
All in all it was a very busy and enjoyable day for everyone and a special thank you must go to the parents who came along – their help was greatly appreciated.
