Year 3 and 4 Embrace Outdoor Challenges

Year 3 and 4 Embrace Outdoor Challenges

With the sun shining and wellies on, the Year 3 and 4 pupils were ready to take part in another grounds day.

In the morning, the Year 4 pupils worked hard with Chris to tidy up and prepare the existing flower and vegetable beds by the pool area, ready for planting after Easter. Following this, they became challenge seekers when asked to use flint and steels to practice fire-lighting skills. Every child showed resilience with this tricky task successfully creating a small flame.

As it has also been 'Book Week', the class then took part in a fable-trail. Jackie introduced Aesop’s Fables and then the children were asked to find the story posters placed in the woods. As each poster was found, the story was read, and the children discussed the moral of each.

Finally, the children re-grouped at the top of the hill where Chris had set up the Swedish fire logs to cook some marshmallows as a reward for the children's hard work.

In the afternoon session, Year 3 pupils enjoyed the Fable trail and marshmallows around the campfire in the woods. All pupils rose to the fire-lighting challenge and the children then finished an amazing afternoon with a sing-song around the campfire.

Thanks to Miss Newton-May, Miss Beazleigh, Miss Anderson and Claire for their support with their tutor groups and a huge thank you to Chris who spent the day with us organising resources, building fires and overseeing the digging.

Thanks also to Molly from Year 6 who offered to help with the Year 3 pupils in the afternoon.
