Forging Friendships in the Community

Forging Friendships in the Community

Year 2 were delighted to be invited to go and spend the afternoon at the Heathfield Young at Heart Club.

Young at Heart is a social club providing a day outside the home for older people, a healthy lunch, activities including walks, time with other like-minded adults and, most importantly, the company of younger people.

The children were each paired up with one of the club members to hear them read. It was really heartwarming to see the children so at ease with the adult they were reading to and all the chatting and laughter going on between the generations.

They then engaged in various activities including making pirate eye patches, followed by a competition of making things from play dough which caused great amusement for all!

The afternoon flew by and before we knew it was time to say goodbye. The children all said they had an amazing time and were pleased to have made new friends in the community.

A huge thank you to Rachel who organises the Young at Heart Club and to all its members for making us so welcome.

We look forward to returning soon.
