Year 1 Enjoy Learning About Plants at Wilderness Wood
Posted: 22nd June 2012 | Category: Year 1
To begin their topic on Plants, Year 1 visited Wilderness Wood on Thursday May 17th. The children were taken on an edifying walk through the woods led by one of the guides at Wilderness Wood; this guide showed them many different types of plants and trees.
The children found out about what a plant needs to grow and learnt what the parts of a plant are called. They particularly enjoyed learning about the sticky plant, Cleaver, which they had fun sticking to their jumpers!
At the end of their visit, all the children enjoyed playing on the adventure playground. It was definitely a highlight to see Miss Bakewell trying out the zip wire swing!
Many thanks to the parent helpers who joined Year 1 on their trip.
Continuing their Plant topic, Year 1 pupils created tulip paintings. They didn’t use paint brushes to make these, but instead had their arms painted with green paint right up to their elbows to print the stem, their hands painted to print the petals and their thumbs painted to print the leaves!
