Welcome to Laura Tasharrofi Year 1

What attracted you to the role at Skippers?                                                                               

Skippers’ small class sizes will allow me to capture and build upon children’s interests by celebrating their unique talents, building strong relationships and personalising learning. Also, Skippers’ outdoor space and Woodland Explorers programme are the perfect tools to promote outdoor learning and bring the curriculum to life! I believe this will help me to ensure I can provide children with real life contexts and child-initiated learning in a challenging and exciting learning environment. I am also excited that I will get to work alongside Lottie the Labrador too!  
What skills and experience can you bring to Skippers?
During university, I worked as both a tennis coach and at an International School throughout the summer. Upon graduating, I worked full-time for two years as a Year 4 Class Teacher in Eastbourne where I progressed to Head of Year 4 and SMSC coordinator. Additionally, I have taught abroad in under privileged and resourced schools in India, Africa and Fiji. These experiences emphasised a love of learning and as a result, I have forged relationships with communities across the world. 

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Teaching allows me to be creative and bring something new to each day. I take pleasure in watching children express their feelings and develop imagination through learning and play. This, alongside my own love of learning and working collectively as a school team, are the reasons I pursued a teaching career.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher? 

It’s always fantastic to see excitement from children thrilled by a new topic or concept. Nothing beats the moment when a child finally understands or accomplishes something after persevering for so long, and to be able to share that moment is a privilege.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I am currently part of The Eastbourne Netball League and I also enjoy running, tennis and swimming. Team sports in particular have taught me the skills of self-belief, motivation and perseverance, which is subsequently modeled in my outlook of teaching. I hope to pass on my enthusiasm for sport and encourage participation, helping the children and myself to contribute to the wider curriculum.
