Skill, Stamina and Strength from U13A Netballers

The Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) netball tournament, which involves the strongest and often larger of the prep schools, is held across the country in regions, with the subsequent national finals played amongst the top schools of the day. Skippers' region often comes out on top which is why it is a tough and hugely competitive tournament to be involved in.

This year, the Skippers U13A team demonstrated strength, skill, stamina and team spirit in their group matches to win through to the playoffs where our run of success was halted by a formidable Brighton College, the winners of the other group.

Wins of the day included St Andrews 10-4, Ashdown House 5-4, Sevenoaks Prep 9-5, Hazelwood 6-3 and Dulwich Prep 8-5 in a series of nail-biting matches where every pass and tactical move counted in the short 12-minute games.

Skippers were beaten by Windlesham and Brambletye, with both of their coaches commenting after on the strength of our match play, but the game that changed our fortunes was Cumnor. Having been in the lead for the entirety of the match, a couple of passing errors saw them draw then take a one-goal victory in the last minute. That meant although we had both made it through to the playoffs, we then had the tougher draw.

Cumnor went on to win their next match and secured a place in the National finals. Nothing though will take away the excitement and success of the day and a huge well done to the girls for their impressive determination and teamwork!

May future Skippers teams be encouraged by this and go forth in the future.
