Talented and confident pupils at Performing Arts evening

Posted: 23rd November 2016 | Category: Drama, Year 4, Years 5 to 8

The house lights were dimmed and the stage set for another highly successful Performing Arts evening.  To a packed audience, a record number of students prepared to perform to friends and family. There was an air of anticipation as dancers put the finishing touches to their costumes, clarinet reeds checked and violin strings tuned.  Then, with the pre-performance bustle over, audience and performers settled in their places and the first dancers of the evening made their entry.

What talent and what confidence our young people showed as one group merged into the next.  From beautifully recited poems to Team Woodwind and a journey told through piano solos and duets; a guitar solo, a violin solo, pianists who learn outside school, the delightful acting by three members of Year 6.  Miss Marsden’s singers, two pupils just starting their musical journey with our new Rock and Pop teacher.  Groups of graceful dancers performed a Dutch dance and an Irish jig and three young ladies choreographed their own dance steps to Katy Perry’s Fireworks. As ever, Guthrie delighted with his drumming - shame he could not find his trademark trilby (Guthrie, was Zac wearing it?) - and Mr Hammond probably wished, at that point, that he had chosen a different seat!

And to conclude, our first Glee choir, our Year 5 singers who brought the concert to fitting finale with Hold back the River.  My heartfelt thanks to Ruby and Lizzie, all our performers, their parents (for supporting their practice, an unsung task!) and their teachers for all their hard work in making this such a memorable evening.
