Year 7 Success in National Poetry Competition

The senior pupils have become fully immersed and engaged in their poetry topic this term.

Year 7 have been revising their understanding of poetic techniques and have been taking part in ‘poem of the day’. Each day it is somebody else’s turn to perform a poem to start the lesson. It might be a solo poem or friends can be involved, broadening the children’s repertoire and encouraging them to discover a love of poetry and reading for pleasure.

We were thrilled to discover that several Year 7 students who had submitted poems to the National Young Writers Poetry Wonderland Competition back in October have had their poems selected to be published in an upcoming anthology in March, along with students from schools across the country. The theme for the competition was simply ‘Wonderland’ so topics ranged from imaginary pets and mystery lands to animals that joined the navy.

We cannot wait to receive our copy for the school library and see their work in print. Huge congratulations to Martha Hall, Isabella Pharoah, Zac Smallpeice, Amelia Burden, Hannah Pringle, Harry Mercer, Tom Cassidy, Nell Drake and Sam Williams.
