Skippers Support the Homeless

Skippers Support the Homeless

Prior to the Christmas holidays, we set the Skippers community a challenge to support a local charitable initiative whereby rucksacks full of essential items would be collected and distributed to those in need. As the days and weeks went by, a plethora of rucksacks lay dormant and we wondered if our secret target of 20 would be achieved. How we were wrong!

By the penultimate week of term, we had to clamber over a pile of donated items to get into the school office and a total of 32 rucksacks were filled with a couple of bags of extra items all waiting to be passed on. The rucksacks were colour coded with subtle blue or purple detail to indicate if the content was suitable for male or female to help when handing out.

Taking the wonderful efforts from the Skippers parents, pupils and staff down to the collecting point filled us all with real joy; a feeling which encompassed the spirit of Christmas completely. Skippers efforts accounted for over half of the donations that were received in the local area.

The project manager wrote to us to say, “Thank you all for your wonderful donations. We are so grateful that you have thought about our homeless here locally. Thank you for your generosity and support.”

From us here at Skippers, thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Rucksacks challenge for the homeless project such a fantastic success. Projects like this make you realise what a generous and caring community we have here at Skippers, thank you all again.
