SING! Eastbourne College

SING! Eastbourne College 17th November 2015
Sunshine Coast it most certainly was not.  However, whatever the weather, we received a warm welcome from Eastbourne College and the choice of music chosen for the day did not disappoint.
After a snack and drink – it’s hard work sitting in a mini bus for half an hour and energy levels had obviously dipped – it was straight into rehearsal.  And for the next seven hours, that pretty much summed up what we did.  SING!  Pupils from several Prep schools across East and West Sussex had converged on Eastbourne and were soon divided into three singing groups.
From John Dankworth’s Light of the World to Karl Jenkins’ Adiemus, the children soon became immersed in the different genres of music.  Later in the day, Eastbourne College’s Senior Choir joined us – including former Skippers pupil, Bibi Convert – to sing Fix It!
Lunch time saw us brave the elements to walk the short distance from the Birley Centre to the Dining Room.  En route, Baylee managed to attract the attention of a passing sea gull who had no respect for her pristine school blazer and Mrs Holleyman found herself decorated with Caesar dressing, courtesy of a Prep school colleague.
After lunch, all visiting pupils had the opportunity to take part in a number of activities, including Zumba and Music Tech.
A number of parents joined us for our concert at the end of the day. With such a short rehearsal time and a varied programme, the pupils performed well to the obvious delight of their parents.  A big ‘thank you’ to Eastbourne’s new Music Director and all the other staff who gave our pupils such an enjoyable day.
