Senior Choir to Bedes for the day

Posted: 2nd March 2016 | Category: Drama

Our Choir Day at Bede’s seems to have become an annual fixture.  From our first invitation three years ago, a bond has been forged and members of their Senior Choir and ours have worked well together.
Our Senior Choir continues to grow in numbers and 24 children from Years 5 – 8 boarded two mini buses, one kindly sent from Bede’s, at 9:00 last Thursday.  Of those, 14 pupils are new members of the Choir and, like our earlier visit to the O2, this was a new venture.  We were, as always, warmly welcomed to the school and booklets of music distributed.  The choice of music went down well and, after a somewhat subdued start, Mr Scamardella soon had our choir members singing their hearts out.
It was not just their singing that impressed but their musical knowledge and the speed with which they ‘read’ the music with increasing confidence.  They were quick to follow Mr Scamardella’s instructions and add phrasing and dynamics to their performance.  With a number of Bede’s choir swelling the ranks, their performances sounded impressive.  It was lovely to meet up with Francesca and Sarah, former Skippers pupils, and see them taking an active role in music at Bede’s.
Max, from Year 9, made such a hit with our pupils that we were actively banned from smuggling him back to Skippers.  That, and the trend for fruit tea, will be two of my lasting impressions.
Thank you to Miss Morris and Mr Scanardella for all their hard work in preparing for and giving us such a rewarding day.  Thank you also to all the parents who came to the concert at the end of the day.  I am sure you will agree that your sons and daughters made you very proud!
