Senior Boys Hockey Team Out to Prove Themselves

Posted: 7th March 2013 | Category: Sports

The fixtures in the week since half-term have shown an indication of the potential of our Senior Boys Team.

We have taken part in two fixtures, a triangular match between ourselves, Handcross Park and Ardingly, away at Ardingly College and the Handcross Park Hockey Tournament.

In the triangular match, two VIIs, an A & B, took on the 2012 U13 County Champions on their own astroturf.

The A team beat Handcross Park A convincingly with a 6-0 victory, then they managed to overcome their hosts Ardingly A by 4-0.

The B team beat Handcross Park B 4-0 and then scraped home with a 2-1 victory against Ardingly B. (This B team is the core of next season's A team)

In the Handcross Park Tournament played on grass, (most unusual), we beat Handcross Park B 2-0 and then we played Handcross Park A. They scored first from a penalty corner and held the lead until the last minute when Sam Collins squeezed a shot in after frenetic activity in their D. A 1-1 draw was well deserved.

We had to beat Moon Hall School by more than 3 goals, without letting any goals in!
A good start saw us 3-0 up by half-time but we allowed our concentration to slip and they scored to make it 3-1. This fired up the team who reacted with two fine goals to finish with a 5-1 victory, enough to secure first place and medals all round.

We go to Jersey with our tails high and not too much complacency. We know the task in front of us and the Teams want to succeed. Now we have to prove it to ourselves.
