Pancake Day
Posted: 30th March 2012
Pancakes were the focus of the assembly at Skippers Hill last Tuesday. The children learnt about the meaning of Shrove Tuesday and the Christian ritual of Lent. They also heard about the origins of the first Pancake Race in 1445 and looked at pancake phrases in different languages. Years 1 and 2 treated the school to a role-play of ‘the Story of the Runaway Pancake’.
The climax of the Assembly was the Pancake Tossing Challenge. The atmosphere in the gym was electric as children witnessed some very stiff competition by the children taking part. Gabbi Mack and Adam Emin were keen challengers and made it through to the final. Both contestants showed incredible skill and concentration throughout, but the winner at the end was Gabbi.
Years 1 and 2 later had their own pancake tossing competition in their classroom.
