Our intrepid Year 8s head off camping

Ignoring the forecasts of wall-to-wall thunderstorms, our intrepid year 8s set out with their tents and waterproofs for Broadstone Warren last Thursday.  Having pitched camp, the group headed into the woodland to try their hand at orienteering and explore the site.  Over two muddy days, the pupils roamed the woods, gathering firewood, playing hide and seek, honing bushcraft skills (successfully making a fire and building a shelter in increasingly persistent rain), knocking each other out with inflatable weapons and the braver among us (among them, I should say) playing water polo.  The gazebo was invaluable as we barbecued burgers in a torrential downpour, but not even a tent could put off the marauding squirrel who got his claws on our chocolate cake!  It was wonderful to spend time in the outdoors, getting our hands dirty and proving our survival skills can keep us going at least for 36 hours!  Thanks to Mr Gurran for his wide game expertise, to Chris for his practical support and to Wendy for keeping us fed.
