Opportunities to Enrich Learning

Opportunities to Enrich Learning

The Autumn Term is well underway and the children at Skippers have been inundated with opportunities to enrich their learning through the Extra-Curricular and Enrichment sessions. This year we are fortunate to be able to offer Mandarin, Spanish and French classes to the children, which will provide a cultural insight as well as an understanding of the language.

Our experienced external members of staff offer a wide range of opportunities for the children to participate in, including Fencing, Mountain Biking, Rugby, Touch Typing and Bushcraft. These sessions run alongside a plethora of sporting offerings which have been enhanced by the appointment of Mr Barden and Mr Martin and have so far been a great success with the children and I am looking forward to seeing the sport develop under their excellent tutorage.

Away from the sports field, the children have a great opportunity to explore some of their individual interests through activities such as Quiz Club, Well Being sessions and Drama. The multi-talented Chris Walker has started a Goblin Car Club to extend our STEM provision during which time Year 6 children will be putting together an electric go-kart and eventually racing against other local schools, whilst wearing the Skippers’ colours.

Our Enrichment schedule will be undergoing a revamp this year with the resourceful and creative Miss Barnett joining us and adding a number of new opportunities to support the Art and Design curriculum. The Enrichment time on a Monday afternoon is a key time in the week for the children to be creative and adventurous with their learning. Children from Year 3 to Year 8 will take part in a range of Drama and Art activities which showcase their talents and allow the children to develop their creative skills.

All of the activities that are offered at Skippers are aimed at enhancing the positive learning experience received through the curriculum and aim to build a resilient, challenge seeking pupil that will be able to take their learning and experiences on with them to senior school and adapt them to meet the demands of their new environments.
