Miss Libby Enjoys Working With Early Years

What a fantastic start to the school year we have had in Early Years, from welcoming new children and their families into the Skippers’ family to singing ‘Little Donkey’ in the Christmas Nativity performance, and everything else in between!

This term, all of the children at Skippers have been developing their ability to be excellent independent challenge seekers and in Early Years, this is something which is unstoppable as the children make the most of every opportunity, both inside and out of the classroom. On our Learning Walks through the woods and the Mud Kitchen, we even found a resident bear, who, after some investigation, we thankfully discovered is a friendly bear which means we can continue our learning down in the woods without any worries!

The children’s independence and challenge seeking is inspirational, and seems to have rubbed off on me as this year I continued my own learning journey and I am now completing my MA in Early Years Education at The University of Sussex. It has been fantastic to learn and share new research with colleagues, especially on the topic of an Enabling Environment which I am focussing on for my dissertation. I look forward to discussing its relevance and importance with different teachers as it can look so varied across the age ranges but always has the same purpose - supporting children to move forward with their learning.

I hope you all have a lovely and relaxing Christmas break, the children certainly deserve it after a busy but brilliant first term.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Miss Libby
