KG Tell their Own Stories
Posted: 25th February 2020 | Category: Kindergarten

During the first half of the Spring Term, our Upper Kindergarten children have been forging ahead with their storytelling.
Helicopter Stories is a medium where children dictate their story which is written down verbatim by the teacher. The children then gather around a taped out ‘stage’ to act out the story; this is their favourite part! This holistic approach uses the power of storytelling to develop key curriculum areas such as creativity, communication and language, and personal, social and emotional skills in the Early Years.
It allows a safe space for children’s stories and creates confidence and self-assurance. It also offers a bridge into the world of creative writing as they begin to see the links between the oral stories they compose and the words on a page.
