Skippers Take Part in a Galactic Challenge

On Saturday 19th January, a group of Year 7 and 8 children visited Bede's to take part in a Galactic Challenge.

The 6 representatives from Skippers Hill made up part of the Columbus Aviation team, a small group of the 120 children that attended. The day was a chance for completely unstructured self-learning and teamwork, essential skills that we see in the classroom at Skippers. It was fascinating to watch the children work at developing a futuristic space shuttle ready for the year 2060 and learn about potential jobs that they may arise in the future.

Futuristic developments and technologies which are not yet available were researched and utilised, especially li-fi. It was a great chance to meet new people and for some of the children, it was a chance to tour their future schools and showcase their learning skills. They worked incredibly hard and put forward all of their work in the afternoon presentations to parents and opposition teams.

Each group chose their own presentation team who engaged incredibly with the audience to show the learning that had taken place and they stood up to some vigorous questioning from industry experts.

A particular highlight for the children was the research that went into different methods of developing power, especially how to make energy from human waste, something the children are sure Mr Hammond will be thrilled to explore further!
