Next story: Skippers riding team enjoy lesson at Mayfield
Football season kicks off to a great start
Posted: 28th September 2016 | Category: Sports
The afternoon of the 22nd September saw Skippers Hill U8 and U9 take on Bede's U9 in a hard fought football fixture. Mr Gurran had carefully put together two sides and had managed to include all of the boys in Year Three and Four, a logistical challenge that only he could manage.
With the weather being unseasonably warm, we opted for thirds to allow the boys to have a break from the running and goal scoring that would be taking place, a wise decision! Both games seemed to start off as a competitive tussle and captains Sam Sharma and Ted Burke had organised their teams well and rallied the troops for a brilliant first third, it soon became clear that Skippers would be taking the victories as we took the lead in both matches.
Regular positional rotations for both of the Skippers teams meant that the boys were kept on their toes, the B team managed to field 5 different players in goal. Bede's managed a few attacks, but the only goals Skippers conceded came against the A team, however the score line still looked favourably towards Skippers, the final result being 12-3. The B team managed to keep a clean sheet and eventually completed the match 8 goals to the good.
The matches showed how well the boys can play and was a great victory against a sporty school.
