Congratulations Mr Tier

Posted: 18th September 2019

Congratulations Mr Tier

Mr Tier was awarded a Star of the Week in assembly this week for working so hard in order to complete his Masters.

We asked Mr Tier what inspired him to complete his MA.

'In 2005, when I began my MA course, I didn’t think it would take 14 years to complete! However, family and work commitments over the years made it impossible to find the time.
I had achieved both a Certificate and Diploma of Higher Education in the first couple of years, but I kept thinking that it would be good to complete the MA; when I started at Skippers, I was initially working part-time, so I decided that the time was right.
I began looking at making children more reflective, but quickly moved on to thinking about how to make teachers more reflective, and, perhaps more importantly, what can be the barriers to them doing so. Writing and researching was hard work; I definitely needed many of the Skippers “Effective Learner Profile” characteristics.
I was helped by a contribution from the school to my tuition fees, for which I am most grateful. Thanks also to my colleagues, who gave of their time, enthusiasm and encouragement in equal measure: and to my family who put up with my absence and mood swings throughout!'
