Budding young gardeners in Year 1

On Tuesday 24th April, Year 1 went to Sussex Country Gardeners, Garden Centre. The morning was very informative and children eagerly listened to Lucinda who took the children on a tour of the Garden Centre. Here, they were able to explore a range of vegetable, fruit and flowering plants and trees.

Year 1 especially enjoyed looking at the range of herbs and using their sense of smell to guess what they were. A highlight of the trip was planting their own tomato plants, which were done very carefully, and are a welcome addition to the Year 1 garden area. This was followed by a well deserved brownie and drink. Year 1 were able to touch on the lives of people living and working in the surrounding community in addition to reinforcing their learning of our science topic, plants.

A lovely morning was had by everyone!
