An Explosion of Creativity in Early Years

An Explosion of Creativity in Early Years

We love the beginning of the academic year, as we welcome new families into our Skippers community and start to get to know our new children. Our first challenge of the term was to arrange our ‘settling in’ sessions, which had to be carefully scheduled to minimise social contact between adults. This was done with the support and understanding of our new families, and we are very happy to report that the ‘new’ children are enjoying exploring the classrooms and the grounds alongside their new friends.

The spell of glorious weather has enabled us to make full use of the mud kitchen, the woods and the fields. The Kindergarten children have been bear-spotting, looking for animal habitats and deer prints, and having stories and songs in the woods. Leaf and acorn soup has been made and shared, water beads and coloured bubbles have been used to make potions, and a cardboard box boat has carried passengers to far destinations.

The Reception children have begun the academic year with an explosion of creativity. During my last visit to their classroom I was shown a chocolate machine in construction and a huge colourful pot of ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’, brimming with unmentionable ingredients. An enormous crocodile covered in spikes and glitter was lurking in the corner.  At the tables there were children busy writing and drawing, and the construction workers were fully engaged with crates and blocks outside.

The scene is set for a happy and purposeful Autumn term!

As always, thank you to our parents for your support and engagement in your children’s school life. We are looking forward to the time when we can welcome you back on site and into the classrooms.

With very best wishes,

Lorraine Pincott and the Early Years team.
