Artwork Analysis

Our new Art and Design Technology curriculum is now in full swing and the Year 5 pupils are enjoying their first art project based around the work of Canadian artist Ted Harrison.

The project has provided opportunities for the children to develop their analysis of artwork, look at the life and works of Ted Harrison and develop their use of line and colour in landscape pieces. The children have excelled at identifying and describing the artist’s simplistic style of landscapes and his portrayal of the Yukon. They have been particularly inspired by the way in which the artist contrasts cold and warm colours within a piece.

This week, we have taken advantage of the beautiful view from our playground and the children have been sketching. By focussing on the lines and shapes, rather than the finer details, they have taken the first step in creating their own landscape in the style of Ted Harrison.

Next week, the children will transform their sketch into a simple line drawing and take the next steps in creating their final piece of work - a stained glass window.

Keep an eye out for their colourful creations on the art room windows. See some photos of Year 5 in action here.
