Seniors Flourish with Artistic Talent

Year 8 began 2019 with street art and a study of the artist Keith Haring. Taking inspiration from his cartoon style, they created life-size versions of themselves and painted them to reflect the conflict between their inner feelings and what they choose to share with the world. This term, Year 8 are enjoying the newest addition to the art and DT (Design Technology) curriculum, cooking and nutrition. They have thrown themselves into lessons and are already impressing with their culinary skills and knowledge. Although a few have learnt the hard way to use a lot less salt in their cooking.

Year 7 started the year well with their graffiti project. With the opportunity to apply their digital skills, the children chose a famous character and created their own stencil. They learnt to use a craft knife in order to cut out the different sections; this was rather delicate work and taught them the art of patience and concentration. Once ready, the children then had great fun experimenting with a variety of coloured inks and a spray diffuser. The finished articles are almost too good for the streets!

Year 6 are fast becoming the next generation of engineers and have been impressing with their practical and problem solving skills. They have been learning to work within a brief, collaborate with their peers and solve problems as they arise and apply skills from all areas of the wider school curriculum. Our talented pupils really impressed with their inspired rescue device models.

Year 5 have been taking their lead from Gaudi this term and have built sculptures inspired by nature. The children have been working hard to create life-like animal sculptures out of paper, which they have then covered in mod-roc and decorated with beautiful mosaic tiles. Keep an eye out for some new animals around school very soon.
